Matt Vickers MP has launched a petition to save free parking on Yarm High Street, following claims that Stockton’s Labour-led council are proposing to scrap the 1 hour free parking rule. The Conservative MP says he’s working with businesses and residents to tackle the ‘reckless and out of touch proposals’ which he warns will harm Yarm’s high street.
Matt said:
"The Labour-led council is once again letting down our community by proposing to scrap free parking in Yarm. These reckless proposals will hurt the very businesses that keep our high street alive. Local shops rely on the free parking to attract customers, and introducing charges will literally drive people away. Our Labour-led council is so clearly out of touch with the needs of our area.”
"Rather than raising council tax and charges on hardworking people or protecting £700,000 in councillor allowances, the council should be concentrating on finding solutions that do not negatively impact local residents. It is just outrageous that the council are continuing to target residents just when we need to be supporting our high street and not put extra barriers for visitors”.
"This campaign isn’t just about free parking - it's about protecting the future of our high street and standing up to a council that continues to fail our local area.”
The petition can be signed online or at several businesses along Yarm High Street.
