The new Police base was a campaign pledge from Matt and local Conservative Councillors.
Matt Vickers MP has announced he has achieved one of his campaign pledges to bring a police base to West Stockton, which will allow police to spend more time in Elm Tree, Fairfield, Hartburn, Bishopsgarth and Grangefield.
The local MP has said that the new base will mean that instead of going back and forth the Town Centre for duties, including on bike, public transport or foot, officers can spend more time on local streets.
A petition was started by Matt to garner support for the base and show Stockton Borough Council the strength of feeling toward such an endeavour. The achievement has been hailed a success by local residents, alongside the 267 more police that has been procured for the Cleveland Police Force since 2019.
Matt Vickers MP said:
The success of this long-awaited police base will make West Stockton a safer place, ensuring that our local officers and PCSOs do not have to trudge all the way back to their stations just to be called back out again, wasting valuble time and resources.
I want to say a big thank you to all of the residents who signed my petition to tell the council of this much-needed base. It will allow our bobbies to refuel and reengage at a much quicker rate.
We have seen 267 more police on Cleveland's streets since 2019, and this will only ensure that trend continues for residents here in Stockton.
Local Councillor Hugo Stratton said:
When Stockton's Labour Council and the Labour Police and Crime Commissioner decided to close Medina House all those years ago, West Stockton lost a lot of security and visible policing.
Well, today, we can safely say that thanks to Matt and local conservative councillors keeping the pressure on the council, we have been able to resurrect this fantastic amenity.
This will ensure constituents can feel safer walking their streets, knowing their police force is within close range and more likely to apprehend criminals at a quicker rate.
