Stockton South MP, Matt Vickers visited Stockton's new NHS mental health crisis hub, Brook House.
The new Crisis Hub is designed to reconfigure and streamline the current local NHS mental health services by bringing together community and crisis services and will be added to the current NHS services located on Durham Road.
The Hub is funded by the Government who, after a successful round of bidding, announced £3 million was to be awarded to support the development.
Providing support for people in crisis and on their rehabilitation journey, the teams on-site will offer the right care at the right time during a mental health emergency or a person’s recovery journey.
The site’s adult community mental health team can co-locate with the crisis team, to improve the existing service. When able to work together, they will deliver a tailored, person-centric service provision.
Moving teams together onto a single site where facilities like adult rehabilitation beds are available will speed-up the transition between services and improve the patient outcomes and experience.
Matt Vickers, MP for Stockton South, said:
“I am grateful that the Government was able to recognise the importance of the crisis hub, in protecting our most vulnerable, and in our work to invest in our NHS Trusts.
“The grant has allowed us to invest in our existing Trusts, allowing them to meet modern-day healthcare standards.
“This development improves the existing provisions and makes the experience of receiving crisis support far more accessible and efficient.
“This Hub will benefit the whole community, as it will reduce avoidable hospital admissions and readmissions, lessening pressure on our Emergency Departments.”
“This of course comes on the back of securing Stockton’s new Diagnostic Hospital and together represents one of the biggest investments in improving Stockton’s healthcare in a generation”.
Shaun Mayo, General Manager at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust said:
"We're excited to be moving some of our adult mental health services to the site at Durham Road, Stockton which should improve the experience of people we support in the local community.
"As a Trust, we're on a journey to improve the experience for the people we support. This is one big step on that journey for Stockton and the surrounding area."
