On Sunday (7 October), Matt Vickers MP supported the annual Locomotion Fun Run, which is run by the Locomotion Pub in Eaglescliffe to raise vital funds for Great North Air Ambulance.
The run, which offers two routes - a 10-mile and a 5-mile course – follows the original railway route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
As the finish line is outside the Locomotion Pub, participants find themselves meeting the railway line at Eaglescliffe Station.
The event prides itself on celebrating the Stockton & Darlington Railway, whilst raising vital funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
There were over 60 participants at Sunday’s race. Medals were awarded to all finishers, and the male and female run winners received first class train tickets, supplied by Grand Central.
Matt joins every year to watch on from the side lines, and the number of local supporters continues to grow. This year they included Northern Rail and Co-op.
Speaking after the race, Matt Vickers MP said:
“The Locomotion Fun Run is always a fantastic day.
“I’m always impressed by the sheer professionalism and smoothly run operation put on by the volunteers.
“Not only does the event encourage people to get out and get fitter whilst training, but it raises vital funding for our Great North Air Ambulance, who provide emergency response in the constituency.
“I’m not making any promises, but you might spot me on the other side of the track next year!”
