Preston Park turned 70 over the weekend and hosted an event for families to celebrate. Matt Vickers visited earlier in the week to reflect on the prized museums past.
Preston Park is a stately home, also host to galleries, temporary exhibitions, educational interactive elements, and a park play space for children.
The anniversary events included face painting, balloon modelling and cupcake decorating.
Reflecting on his memories of Preston Park, Matt Vickers said: “Some of my favourite memories as a child involve visiting Preston Park with my family during weekends and the school holidays.
“It’s one of the largest tourist attractions in Teesside, boosting our local economy as visitors head to the independent businesses along Yarm high street for dinner after a busy day.
“The house, museum and grounds are a piece of British history on our doorstep. It’s important to look after it so that future generations can share in the joy it has brought us all over the years.
“I’m pleased that part of the £20 million Levelling Up funding secured for Eaglescliffe and Yarm from the Conservative Government is going towards ensuring that Preston Park stays in this condition, and renovating the aviary.
“We’ll even be improving the museum with a tribute to our railway history, which will help educate future generations of their heritage!”
