Michael Gove has visited Thornaby today (Monday 24 April) to learn about the plans for the new NETA training facility, as an expansion of Stockton Riverside College campus.
During a visit to Stockton Riverside College, Levelling Up Secretary Michael got to see the incredible vocational courses that take place at Stockton Riverside College and at the NETA Facility.
The Levelling Up Secretary joined Stockton South MP Matt Vickers to discuss plans for a new purpose-built skills hub on site.
The new skills hub will be delivered as part of the £23.9 million Thornaby Town Deal, which Matt Vickers secured from the Conservative Government.
Currently NETA training facilities operates from a tired and dated premises, and from part of the Education Training Collective across the North East, to offer young people a range of electrical, mechanical and engineering training courses. The new site will be purpose built creating more opportunities and better facilities in which to deliver them.
Speaking after the visit, Matt Vickers MP said:
“The new NETA facility will an essential resource for upskilling our young people, to fit our new skilled job opportunities.
“The Freeport, both at Teesworks and the new Airport Business Park have created a huge number of employment skills and it’s important our local youngsters have the skills needed to get these great, well paid jobs of the future.
“I’m pleased to see the money secured as a part of Thornaby’s Town Deal will go towards future proofing our economy and expanding employment horizons for our young people.
“The Town Deal funding is tackling issues with some of the toughest housing, sorting out our Town Centre, creating a new swimming pool and improving active travel. This new skills hub will create great opportunities for our local youngsters.”
Speaking after the visit, Michael Gove said:
“I was incredibly impressed by the facilities and teaching.
“After meeting with apprentices, I can understand how valued the facility is. The pupils here understand the worth of their training and are secure in the knowledge that their qualifications will open doors for the future.
“Matt’s work in securing the Town Deal investment and the creation of the new centre will benefit local young people and the local economy by ensuring they have the skills to take on many of the new opportunities being secured for Teesside."
The NETA centre provides industry standard equipment and essential skills training to deliver commercial courses, engineering study programmes and apprenticeship training.
