On Friday 17 March Matt Vickers visited two local schools, to answer their questions on Parliament, discuss issues important to them and listen to their speeches.
The youngsters had been learning about the British political system, and teachers have incorporated their curriculum to improve their reading aloud, team working skills and writing skills.
Matt first visited St Francis of Assisi Primary School, where they shared ideas on how they could improve road safety.
Some of the children had also written speeches, which they clearly delivered to their classmates in the audience.
Following this, Matt led a Q&A at Thornaby Academy, where the informed young people asked him questions on his daily duties in Westminster. He also shared his path into politics.
Speaking after the visit, Matt Vickers MP said:
“I am always keen to speak to local young people who are showing an interest in politics and hear about the issues that they’re passionate about.
“There is no typical route into politics, and I think it’s important to highlight this to curious youngsters as soon as possible.
“I began exactly where they are, in the local comprehensive school. I’ve worked in our high street and studied at Teesside University.
“Our hardworking teachers are creating a cohort of future leaders with inspiring lessons on the history of British politics, speech writing and debating.”
