Yesterday, Monday 6 March, Matt Vickers visited Sainsbury’s HQ in London to discover what steps they are taking to keep prices low and to champion our local farmers.
Sainsbury’s are making industry-leading efforts to keep the prices of their essential groceries low and are rising wages for their colleagues in line with the cost of living.
CEO, Simon Roberts, introduced Matt to the leadership team, who included the Chief Retail and Technology Officer, the Chief Marketing Officer and the Director of Nectar and Loyalty.
They shared their ‘Plan for Better’, which is helping them to make decisions which are better for the environment, our health as consumers, and support within the community.
Sainsbury’s leadership team recognise that without the staff running the shop floor, the supermarkets wouldn’t exist. They commended Matt for his work towards making shop floors safer for retail workers, as Chair of the APPG for Future Retail, and they’re making their own commitments to protect their workers.
Matt Vickers, Chair of the APPG for Future Retail, said:
“This was a great opportunity to hear how Sainsbury’s are working to find innovative solutions to keeping the cost of your groceries down.
“Sainsbury’s have always been a hub for the community. I know our stores in Yarm and Whitehouse Farm work closely with local charities, helping us to help each other.
“I’m particularly applaud their outlook towards up-skilling colleagues, such as new distribution for shop floor staff, is helping to create a diverse workforce with more impressive CV’s and variation in the day-to-day.
“I look forward to visiting the North East HQ soon!”
