Matt Vickers welcomes that Stockton South will benefit from the creation of a major Trade and Investment Hub in the North East
Stockton South is set to benefit from the creation of a new major Trade and Investment Hub based in Darlington, which will bring jobs and opportunity for years to come.
This announcement will directly bring hundreds of jobs to the region, with that number expected to continue to rise to 500 by 2030.
This new hub will help businesses large and small supercharge their exporting as they benefit from the best support and advice the UK has to offer - promising to lead to new jobs and new opportunities as we strike out as a sovereign free trading nation.
Matt Vickers has welcomed the Conservative Government’s plan to harness the wealth of skill, talent and expertise of the North East by creating a new trade and investment hub in Darlington.
This new hub is expected to directly bring hundreds of jobs in the region, rising to 500 jobs at Darlington’s Economic Campus by 2030.
These new regional trade hubs will use the UK’s exporting knowledge to help support businesses large and small to overcome those obstacles between them and their export ambitions. By basing these hubs in every part of our union we can boost trade and investment and level-up every part of our nation – with no corner of the UK left behind.
By tapping into the talent and productivity of every corner of our United Kingdom, this Conservative Government will use trade to accelerate our recovery from the pandemic, creating jobs and prosperity across Britain, and levelling up the country as we build back better.
Commenting, Matt Vickers MP said:
“This is fantastic news for Stockton South which will not only benefit from the jobs but also the wealth of knowledge and investment they will bring though this supercharging of our region’s exporting ability.
“The impact of this regional hub will be felt across our constituency as we harness the wealth of talent and skill our region has to offer – putting it to work to help businesses large and small feel the benefits exporting can bring now we have left the EU.
“By investing in the North East, this Conservative Government is creating jobs and spreading wealth across Britain as we level up and build back better.”
International Trade Secretary, Liz Truss said:
“Our new trade policy must and will benefit every part of the UK.”
“These hubs will be a hive of activity in each region of the UK, and will mean we can better channel investment into all corners of the country.
“Whether it’s selling Scotch beef, Welsh Lamb or cars made in the North of England we want our best British exports to have access to the expertise they need to sell into the fastest growing markets.”
Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen said:
“This announcement puts Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool at the centre of UK trade policy like never before. While other regions talk about Global Britain we’re getting on and delivering it.”
“As home to the UK’s biggest freeport, having the government’s trade arm here will bring more investment, more businesses and more jobs right across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.”
“Having Treasury and now the Department of International Trade coming to Darlington is not only good for the Government, but it is also good for local jobs.”
“We are already working with the Treasury to make sure local people are prioritised for the jobs that are created at their new HQ, and I look forward to doing the same with Liz Truss and her team.”
