Teesside's on the up! After decades of Labour control in the North East and being represented by Labour big hitters like Tony Blair, Peter Mandelson and Alan Milburn in our region, we have nothing to show for it. Now, this Conservative Government and our fantastic new blue MPs are making up for lost time and clawing money, jobs and investment back to Teesside.
Whether that be the 750 Treasury jobs being relocated to Darlington, meaning that key decision-makers will be based in the North East rather than in London, or the £3.4bn investment in the Teesside Freeport, bringing with it 18,000 quality jobs for local people, or even the recently announced net-zero power plant which will support more than 2,000 construction jobs before it's even operational!
Darlington railway station is also seeing an extraordinary £100m facelift, with the scheme aiming to improve the reliability and frequency of services and, much to Labour's dismay, our recently re-election Mayor, Ben Houchen, has been delivering on his pledge to revive Teesside Airport with an ever-growing number of flights and destinations.
Closer to home, Stockton South MP, Matt, has helped secure £23.9m for Thornaby through the Towns Deal, a further £16.5m to improve Stockton High Street, £15m to enhance Eaglescliffe Train Station, £6.5m investment in North Tees hospital, as well as putting in a £20m Levelling Up bid for major improvements in Yarm and Eaglescliffe. There has never been a better time to live in Teesside!
