On Saturday (7 October) Stockton Conservative members hosted John Lamont MP, for a taste of Scotland and a night of conversation.
John Lamont has been the MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk for five years, and is now the Minister for Scotland.
John joined the group of local members as one of a series of Conservative speakers, current MP’s and notable figures, who will make appearances in Stockton for Conservative members. In recent times these have included David Starkey, Jeffrey Archer, Priti Patel, Lee Anderson, Ann Widdecombe and many others.
The Scottish member began his visit out on the doorsteps alongside Matt Vickers MP, where he spoke with residents about local and national topics.
The Scottish themed evening began with Johns favourite Scottish delicacies, of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.
He then gave an insight into politics north of the border, the importance of the union and his outlook on recent events, where he endorsed Rishi Sunak’s approach to pushing the United Kingdom’s economy forward.
Speaking after the event Matt Vickers said:
“A huge thank you to John for coming down for this very entertaining evening.
“It’s always interesting when we welcome guest speakers from outside the North East, as they help to inform a rounded view of the picture across the country.
“John’s willingness to join me out on the doorsteps is also telling of his passion. I recently had the opportunity to speak at a similar event for Melrose and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to hear from his members”.
