Amazon have announced their new fulfilment centre, based in Wynyard, will begin operations on Monday 9 October.
Next Monday the new Amazon fulfilment centre will open its doors to a new 1000 strong workforce, bringing local opportunity with Amazon committed to doubling its workforce in the near future.
The building is filled with state-of-the-art robotics to improve the delivery processes, which increase the operations efficiency and safety.
As the fulfilment centre is filled with robotics, it will require more skilled jobs such as engineers to operate and maintain the machinery.
This is the fourth fulfilment centre in the North East following the opening of sites in Darlington, Durham and Gateshead.
Speaking on the announcement, Matt Vickers MP said:
“Amazon’s commitment to the North East is evidence of the attraction in investing here.
“Amazon has become one of the area’s largest employers and have invested over £1.7 billion across the region, a number which continues to grow.
“Stockton has a strong highly skilled workforce, which appeals to international giants like Amazon who rely on skilled workers to operate the most cutting-edge technologies.
“Stockton’s workforce has been future-proofed thanks to government investments towards training our young people, such as the funding provided to deliver our new NETA Training College in Thornaby.
“I'm thrilled to be welcoming Amazon to Stockton and I look forward to visiting the site soon!”
