£350,000 from the government’s youth investment fund is being used to replace the previous wooden scout hut with a modern purpose-built facility.
Matt Vickers MP visited The Scout Hut, Neasham Road in Middleton St George this week to see the progress being made on the new youth hub, accompanied by Paul Howell MP for Sedgefield, local volunteers, beavers, cubs, scout members and building staff.
The new hub is set to transform youth facilities and give young people in Middleton St George the opportunity to develop vital skills for life.
The plans for the hub have been updated to further include the addition of bird and bat boxes.
Matt Vickers MP said:
Having been a beaver, cub and scout and volunteered as a leader I know how valuable the movement can be for youngsters. Well done and thanks to all those who volunteer and help for ensuring these opportunities are open to our youngsters.
It was fantastic to join current MP for the area Paul Howell at the Middleton St George Scouts to see the foundation stone laid for their fantastic new building!
Commenting, Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer, said
“I want every young person to have the opportunity to access the kinds of life-changing activities which expand their horizons and allow them to develop vital life skills. The National Youth Guarantee will provide these opportunities and support young people with access to regular club activities, adventures away from home and volunteering opportunities.
We are supporting this today with an investment to create or renovate spaces for youth clubs and activities to support opportunities for thousands of young people across the country who would otherwise miss out.”
