Schools across Stockton are benefitting from £57.7milliion in investment and improvements. Matt Vickers has welcomed this and visited a number of schools to outlook at how they are making use of it.
Matt Vickers was welcomed at Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth by Head of School Jason Rhodes, Chief Executive Officer Sir Martyn Oliver, Associative Executive Principle Steve Merifield alongside local Councillor Hugo Stratton.
The school received an allocation of £6.7 million towards a new school facility.
The group toured the current construction, as the academy has opted to use the funding to extend their school with a new teaching block and hall.
This will support an increase in pupil admission, with kitchen and dining spaces also planned to accommodate the increased attendance.
Outwood Academy will also develop purpose-built, topic-specific classrooms. There will be an additional high-quality science facility.
After the visit, Matt Vickers MP said:
“It’s important that our educational providers are able to grow their capacity so that young people across the patch are able to access a good education.
“Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth is a multi-award-winning school, and allowing more children the opportunity to study there will unlock more potential for the future.
“It was fantastic to hear about Jason’s successful plan to raise attendance and in turn raise the schools academic performance. Students are leaving with a rounded education, and fully equipped to tackle the next step of their individual journey.
“I’m sure that we’ll soon be hearing even more success stories from former pupils.”
