Matt met with new start-up owner, Gavin Larry, on Tuesday (14 February), to try out Gym 22 and find out more about being a business owner in the constituency.
Gym 22 was created by Gavin after he was made redundant during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Instead of immediately searching for a new job in a similar field, Gavin took his redundancy as an opportunity to revisit a lifelong dream of owning an accessible gym.
After retraining and deepening his knowledge a personal trainer, and having been a wheelchair user in the past, Gavin was passionate to make his gym space an inclusive one, which would attract an inclusive community.
Refreshingly, the gyms outlook isn’t based purely on strength. It’s also on mindset, education and confidence, making it a welcoming space for beginners and experienced gym goers alike.
The spacious one level gym now boasts plenty of floor space, changing rooms, showers, wall length mirrors, and new equipment, which Matt arrived prepared to try out.
After the visit Matt said:
“It’s great to see another Stockton start-up thriving after only opening a month ago.
“Gavin demonstrated his experience whilst showing me the ropes on some of his new equipment.
“His passion for accessibility is a clear driving force and it’s encouraging to see the need for inclusivity to progress inside the fitness industry.
“Many thanks to Gavin for welcoming me and speaking about the opportunities to create a new business in Stockton. I look forward to watching his business go from strength to strength.”
The gym offers plenty of membership options for all requirements. It’s opening hours are 6am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and slightly reduced hours on weekends.
To join the gym, or find out more, you can visit the Gym 22 website or find them at Ground Floor, 3 George Stevenson Court, off Westland Court, Preston Farm, TS18 3TG.
