Stockton Council have recently unveiled their new plans which will see Preston Park Museum upgraded to modernize and improve facilities throughout the park.

Thanks to the £12.4 million in funding from the Conservative government and our levelling-up investment, this incredible public space will get the upgrades it has needed for such a long time to meet the demands of growing visitor numbers and improve our local tourist economy.

The series of improvements will include:

  • A modern extension to the existing museum, creating a large, flexible exhibition space and visible collection stores
  • Park café and toilet refurbishments with the addition of a Changing Places toilet
  • Retaining and repurposing the aviary structure
  • Car parking extension and upgrades to the main entrance
  • Overall improvements to landscaping, paths, lighting and signage
  • Showcasing the important story of the Stockton & Darlington Railway close to the original 1825 track-bed

In Improving the park, which of the following are most important to you?
Were you aware that Matt has secured £20million of funding to allow us to make improvements to Preston Park and Yarm?
Matt believes priority should be given to improving the toilets & cafe, sorting the aviary and celebrating our railway heritage in the park. Do you agree?
While approving of improved exhibition facilities to allow nationally significant displays to visit, Matt is concerned by council plans to build a huge extension as a storage centre for things council hold elsewhere. What’s your view?
Were you aware that Stockton’s Labour Council are looking to introduce car parking charges at Preston Park? Matt is opposed to this and is encouraging people to make their views known to the council.
